How to Download Fortnite for Linux in 2020

Fortnite for Linux is perfect for Linux purists and if you happen to love Fortnite, then we got a lot to talk about. As you can see Fortnite is available on most popular platforms but not on Linux-based distributions.

It seems like the developers from the Epic Games do not consider the Linux platform as a big part of the community. And this is more evident due to the fact that Fortnite for Linux does not have any news or ring to it.

What is Fortnite?

Fortnite: Battle Royale is a game that puts 100 players on an island. And let them fight off and shoot each other until there is only one left standing. This is what battle royale means. Gather a hundred unarmed players in one place. Let them gear up to defend themselves. Or obliterate anyone that comes in their way.

The game uses Unreal Engine 4 that makes the game demanding in terms of hardware specifications. This means lower-end devices will not be able to run the game properly or not at all. If you want to fully enjoy Fortnite, you need a gaming machine with gaming accessories.

Fortnite is available for most popular operating systems so you should be able to play the game. That is, of course, only possible if you run Fortnite for Windows, Fortnite for Mac, Fortnite for Nintendo Switch, or Fortnite for PlayStation 4.

Unfortunately, there is no official Fortnite for Linux. So that is the sad news that we cannot fix. Unless Epic Games developers suddenly decide to port Fortnite for all Linux-based distributions, then that is the time that we get to see Fortnite for Linux. Until then, we can either get Fortnite for Android or Fortnite for iPhone/iPad.

Limitations of Linux

The Fortnite for Linux should happen. Sure there is the Wine app that can run Windows games. But it just cannot run Fortnite the way it is meant to be played. Not to mention the fact that Epic Games makes it hard for Linux users to install the game in a much easier way.

While the installation alone is such a headache, the actual gameplay makes it feels like Fortnite is a joke for any Linux-based OS. There are noticeable stutters every now and then plus some bugs and lags. And then there are some reports of crashing and random exits while in-game. That is why some users have taken it to petition that the Epic Games should make Fortnite for Linux possible. Or at the very least, make Fortnite playable on Wine.

Until then, we can all just watch in the distance. Feel envious of the players that use supported consoles and platforms to play Fortnite. If only there are current battle royale games available for Linux to date, it would not be so bad after all.

In Conclusion

The Fortnite for Linux is not a possibility any time soon. On that note, we would like to call out Epic games developers and the company itself to please heed our requests. There are millions of us that are still using Linux-based distributions. We may be too few compared to Windows and Mac OS users, but we still are millions in numbers, to begin with. And that should mean something.

In today’s article, do you think or do you have any idea about any battle royale games that can run on Linux? How is it and would it be enough to suffice our need to enjoy a decent battle royale mode? Tell us in the comment section below. We would know what you guys think or up to.

  2. Ehh they get enough money from the windows based pc gamers playing fortnite. Must be profitable to the point that they can ignore millions of potential customers the use linux.

  3. You need to direct your anger and frustation to Microsoft. Epic is just taking the bribes because it’s more than they could expect to gain from the linux users, with lots of them choosing to play the game on Windows or Mac as an alternative.

Microsoft has done this with great success for PCs, completely removing the option to get a PC without Windows preinstalled – for at least a decade. It’s typical Microsoft strategy.

  4. You can play if you make a virtual machine.
Does it suck sure but, since I really want to play, that’s what I’m doing.

  5. I disagree with this bias article. You should use Windows OS since it is the STANDARD for PC multiplayer and runs Fortnite great. Gaming on Linux has been and still is a joke.
